Mrs. Jennifer Ione Maynard – Provincial President – West Indies 2011 to the present
Jennifer Ione Maynard is a founding member of the St. Patrick’s Branch of the Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Barbados. She held the offices of Branch Secretary, Enrolling Member and Deputy Enrolling Member. At the Diocesan level she has held the offices of Assistant Secretary; Executive Secretary, Vice-President and Diocesan President.
Born in Barbados, she was raised and educated in the United Kingdom where she met and in 1973 married the now deceased Shirlon Caston Maynard, an Officer in the British Royal Navy. The marriage produced two children.
Her first provincial experience was in 1995 when she attended her first Provincial Council meeting in Trinidad & Tobago. It was in 2005 in Trinidad & Tobago that she was elected Vice President in the Province of the West Indies. Jennifer was responsible for Social Policy across the Province. In July 2011 she was elected to the office of Provincial President and is now in her second term. Jennifer was elected to serve at the Worldwide level as a member of the Action and Outreach Committee and is a member of the Worldwide Council. Her most memorable experiences include Worldwide Council in 2008 in Toowoomba, Australia; Provincial Presidents Conference in the United Kingdom 2014; The 2016 Partnership for World Mission Conference under the theme “Going the Extra Mile: Mission in a Moving World” in the United Kingdom.
A Human Resources practitioner, Jennifer is a trained Parenting Facilitator, trained Family Life Counsellor with the Family Life Commission of Barbados, and serves the community as a Board Trustee of a Non Governmental Organisation. Jennifer has served as Secretary to the Barbados Christian Council. It was during her first year as Diocesan President that a feeding programme was implemented in the Diocese for School children; It was through her determination and commitment that the Worldwide Parenting programme was implemented in the Diocese of Barbados in 2008. Jennifer is a Lay Minister at her Parish Church – St. Patrick’s and remains ‘passionate’ about the Mothers’ Union which she considers to be a ‘way of life’.
