My Sisters in Christ I greet you at this time with mixed feelings, a feeling of sadness as I recently laid my mother to rest, but happiness for the life she lived for 99 years and the fact that I am able to serve as your Provincial President at this time.
As the saying goes” Better late than never’ I would not want the week to go by without sending my first message for Provincial Week. The Church in the Province of the West Indies observes Mothers’ Union Provincial Week 2018 from April 15 to April 21. The Third Sunday of Easter, ‘Provincial Sunday’, begins a week of activities when each Diocese highlights the work of the Mothers’ Union offering prayers and thanks within our respective Churches for God’s mercies
The Mothers Union theme, “In Mary Sumner’s Footsteps” is most appropriate at a time when the Province has just celebrated its 25th Anniversary and the Worldwide Mother’s Union is in its 142nd year. This theme speaks to our past, present and future. It is hoped that we will be reenergized by all that Mary Sumner stood for and the Vision, Mission and Objects of the Society.
We should be proud of our rich legacy, one which over time, has equipped women in the Anglican Communion with a sound platform on which to build and paint a bright future. Our record of activism in the interest of stable Christian family life, reaching out to all children, the vulnerable and marginalized in our society is testimony to our outstanding work. Over these years, we have been inspired by activating our vision and mission in positive ways. To that extent, many of the Dioceses within the Province have gone far beyond the call of duty. The members have displayed unwavering commitment, sacrifice and service to the work of the Mothers Union.
The growth and development of the Province will depend largely on our new initiative the MULOA process as we Listen, Observe and Act in order to engage everyone to contribute to sustaining the valuable work of Mothers’ Union.
As your Provincial President, I pledge the continued commitment of the new Executive Committee to all our members to promote the goals and mission of the Mothers’ Union. We will continue to add to the rich legacy of walking In Mary Sumner’s Footsteps and building on what we have inherited.
Our Goals and Objects will continue to be the guiding principles of the Mothers’ Union and its members and we will continue to embrace partnerships and to collaborate at all levels.
Our patriotism to the Province is lifelong and will manifest itself in the quality work we do within the Dioceses and wider communities. We are committed to toil faithfully to achieve this goal.
This year we thank God for His provision as we continue our special giving of United States Dollar per member or its equivalent to spread the gospel throughout the Province
I invite us all during this week and beyond to embrace the Mary Sumner Story as our Guiding Light following in her footsteps to become more active members and ensure that our projects are meaningful and impactful while embracing participation of the younger generation.
Best wishes for a Productive Provincial Week 2018.
Hermin Price (Mrs.)
